Pathway Retracts Statement Regarding Use of Sylvania Lamps
On March 27, 2009, we had published a warning notice to our sales reps, advising that defective lots of compact fluorescent triple tube lamps manufactured by Sylvania were being seen in the field. The most common failure mode was very short lamp life, and in some instances, ballast damage. We advised that the use of Sylvania lamps would void the Pathway product warranty. We also packaged this warning notice with each of our products that shipped.
We are aware that Sylvania has taken major steps to eliminate these problems. The German-manufactured Dulux T/E IN "ECO" triple lamps which are now being supplied perform well. We have randomly sampled Sylvania lamps from distributors around the country and we feel that the Chinese-sourced "EOL" lamps manufactured well over a year ago have sufficiently been depleted or recalled. Therefore we are discontinuing the practice of sending these warning notices with our fixtures.
However, we caution you to be on the lookout for the older Chinese “EOL” lamps as they may cause a problem.
